Selfless Love

I am one who believes the romance and love of Valentine’s Day is something to weave throughout a marriage continually, not on one day established by Hallmark. Also, there is message Hallmark leaves out of the equation in their advertising and cards…sacrifice. I imagine they wouldn’t sell a thing if a card said, “I will sacrifice and give up my life for you.”

Demonstrating daily tangible love toward a spouse requires surrender, serving, and giving of ourselves when it is least convenient. In the case of the man in this video, he demonstrated his love by taking the risk to save his wife and their child under the most dire circumstances – the civil war in the Ivory Coast. He was willing to sacrifice his life to save hers. This is the kind of marital love God speaks of in the Bible.
